I took a few weeks off from seeing movies in the theater, not purposefully, but I realized I didn’t HAVE to go see a movie. I know that may sound silly to some, but I started to have that pull to keep seeing and keep telling you about what I saw. Luckily, I realized I should just go see the movies I really wanted to see instead of simply “going to see a movie”. So anyway, when I finally started back (last week) I saw two movies in two days (nothing like jumping into the deep end).
Oddly enough I saw RED 2 and 2 Guns – again, not purposeful. I really enjoyed RED; therefore, I was looking forward to RED 2. On top of liking the first one, did you see the cast for RED 2 – impressive! I was not disappointed, but not blow away (no pun intended) either. RED 2 is fun, it will make you laugh, it might make you cringe (I do a lot during fight scenes), it was definitely worth seeing. The funniest and best part of the movie – John Malkovich (although Anthony Hopkins gives him a run for his money in a few scenes). Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker & Helen Mirren revise their previous roles and do a great job. Bruce & Mary-Louise’s relationship is VERY similar to Bruce & Amanda Peet’s relationship in The Whole Ten Yards – he seems to have that “bad-ass turned domestic and a little disappointing to the woman” role down to a science.
Mark Wahlberg + Denzel Washington = count me in! 2 Guns was funnier and more serious than I expected. Mark Wahlberg’s character had such a faith in “doing the right thing would bring about justice” that I was surprised and endeared. Denzel’s character was more jaded, but still very likable. The story is interesting and had a few turns I liked (simply because they weren’t normal). Bill Paxton was slimy and very easy to dislike (not true of all the “bad guys”). Mark and Denzel played well off one another – I found I really enjoyed the banter and camaraderie (kudos to the actors and writers).
As I look at the Fandango app on my phone I’m almost overwhelmed with all the movies I want to see – now to find the time…
