Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, laugh, learn, movie, opinion, Ron Howard, sports, true story
I should preface this with, I REALLY like based on true story sports movies! That being said I saw Rush the other day and (of course) really like it. I should probably also say, I’m not a sports fan. I don’t watch any on TV, I don’t have any favorite teams, I barely know what sport “season” it is, but for some reason I REALLY like these type of movies. And Rush had a few surprises (or differences) that I applauded. First, there wasn’t only one “hero” – I found myself cheering for both at (the same & different) times. Second, winning was not the end all for either character (very surprising). And third, the shared bond and rivalry was interesting to watch evolve.
I really like Chris Hemsworth and he portrayed party boy racer well. Daniel Bruhl was unknown to me before this movie, but considered me impressed. At the end of the movie they show real footage of Lauda and Hunt and let me just say – well done casting agents, director, etc. It’s not surprising that Ron Howard directed this amazing story that has so many more levels than your typical sports rivalry. Even if you’re not a sucker for these types of movies (like I am), I think you’d enjoy it.
